World of Warcraft: The Path of Redemption

After getting my Collector’s Edition of Wrath, I rerolled Eshte, my Death Knight, as a Draenei (rather than a Blood Elf, damn PVP) and – after weeks of awful internet access I finally got around to completing the starter quests again. Eshte, an innocent and righteous champion of the Light and daughter of Draenor, was killed in battle against the Scourge and reborn in the Lich King’s service.

Boy, did she have a lot of making up to do.

While not much has changed since the beta, the questline is still epic and beautifully crafted with so much more imput him the Lich King, his creepy voice whispers in your ear as you slaughter the Scarlet Crusade and the people of New Avalon. While slaughter is nice … it feels somehow wrong. I think this is down to my Death Knight being an ex-member of the Alliance (and a peaceful Draenei to boot) rather than the Horde.

The Battle of Light’s Hope Chapel was just as interesting as I remember, although I was unable to die and the redemption sequence was a little different. Phasing is certainly fascinating and I hope Blizzard use it even more as it’s a very effective device to make a MMORPG feel like your unique story.

Suitably redeemed, I was sent off to Stormwind to pledge allegiance to the Alliance and King Varian Wrynn but the townsfolk weren’t exactly pleased to see me. As Eshte walked the familiar streets, her hooves clicking on the cobbles, they hurled insults, threw rotten fruit and spat in her face. Nice. Yet it really makes you appreciate how this alien faction must not only intergrate into their respective faction but also regain the trust of their comrades who still see these terrifying warriors as the Lich King’s pawns.

I’m surpised though; there aren’t that many Death Knights on Daggerspine. I full expected the cities to be thronging with them but I’ve only seen a handful (and many of them seem to be between 70-80). I’m certainly going to try and level her after I get Serisa to 80 but it’s certainly an interesting class, both in terms of gameplay and emotional attachment.
