Double Desktop: Shiny Shiny
After being woken up at the crack of dawn by The Ginger One I took twenty minutes to sort out my lovely new Dell monitors. They arrived yesterday a few minutes to 1pm (the cutoff period for morning delivery) and I managed to pursuade the pissed off chap doing the delivery that there was no room in the ‘hallway’ (in reality it’s a touch wider and longer than the door and leads straight to the staircase) and he couldn’t leave them outside so would he mind carrying them upstairs for me? He did and I managed to just have time to unpack them before heading to the railway station but I could have easily spent all evening playing with them.
So they sat on my desk overnight and this morning I finally got to turn them on and tinker (with a little help from Si – geek phone support is great). I switched the screens round in properties and enabled it so both screens form one giant desktop and …. well, wow! It’s so nice to have dual screens and I can see why so many people say that when you get them you’ll never go back to using just one. I also had a chance to clean my desk again, tidy it up and manuever the monitors into position.
I spent the morning looking at duplicate desktops, the same on each screen which is nice but didn’t quite suit the massive desktop dynamic I was going for. Then I found a program which would let me display my favourite desktops across the screens and I’ve had a wonderful day, it’s so much easier to multi-task with one screen for the web, another for email or Word as well as the various apps I use like AIM, MSN and the like. Plus the ability to turn the screen on and off is a much-missed bonus, even if the touch sensor is a tad too sensitive.
Come on, you’ve got to admit they look gorgeous!
Those are freaking huge! *jealous* I just have a 24-inch wide screen Dell at home and two 20-inch ones at work (I dont think they are widescreen). Congrats on the upgrade!
[...] have been pretty bad. As a result I’m typing on my lappy having connected it up to one of my two massive screens and await my poor PC’s return, hopefully before Aion launches next [...]
