The Chronicles of Ceridwen: Plague Ratsies and Table Legs

Submitted by Ceridwen on Thursday, 19 March 2009One Comment

Ahhh, our new home is so comfy! Mama Isis and I are settling in very well, much to the hooman toy’s delight. We’ve been here three weeks this Caturday and each week we get more settled.

For the first three days Mama was terrified; she curled up on the stairs or behind the desk (which is still one of her favourite snoozing spots). I was a lot more adventurous but the hooman’s home is HUGE compared to our tiny hutch at the shelter. The hooman introduced us to her room, which is fantastic; there’s a big bed to sun myself on, a large window to fall out of (*looks cute*) and this fantastic chair to sleep on. Granted post-fall the staff has now exiled us both to her living room in the vain hope we might sleep in the basket together until she gets the window kitteh-proofed.

The hooman’s previously kitteh-hating staff has completely fallen in love with me (I’m sure it’s cause I’m so cute). She spent ten minutes earlier today tickling me under the chin while I looked ever so cute. The hooman likes to watch me sleep and then stroke me to I make an adorable ‘what the hell did you wake me up for noise’ that she finds incredibly cute. Mama remains much more active in the evenings and, in the morning, she sleeps underneath the sofa throw … which gives me the perfect opportunity to hunt her.

Over the last couple of weeks, the hooman has been buying us toys; we have squeaky robins, mousies, a burdie and even a couple of plague ratsies! My favourite is a burdie on a rod with catnip inside and even Mama is starting to try out all these new toys. Yesterday I finally got around to playing with the scratching post, even if I prefer the sofa or the pre-scratched table legs. The hooman is particularly amused that my favourite things to do include chasing sunbeams and zzzing in the warmest patches of her bed during the day

Mama and I talk a lot, which pleases the hooman as she thinks it’s sweet. She’s still wary of the her but sometimes deigns to be held or stroked. She’s also commandeered the basket! Despite not eating much for the first couple of days, Mama has since rediscovered her appetite, she loves the food we get and even tried some chickenz soaked in beefz gravy. I love meat and kibble and food but my kitteh friends on Twitter keep telling us we need to try fishies like toona and salmonz.

Unfortunately the staff keeps forgetting to bring us some!

There are some things we can’t do. The hooman keeps trying to gently explain to Mama she’s not allowed on the table and I’m not allowed to pull down the netting on the big windows, or scratch the table legs and the curtains. However we’re training the hooman to do our bidding and she’s quite a fast learner. I can’t wait until the summer when all the windows will be open, I might even try to go outside!

Mama Isis and I are both on Twitter, the hooman also hosts video and photos of us on YouTube and Flickr.
