So the snow has, fingers crossed, finally gone. Brrrrrr. Sadly it’s still cold and as a result I’ve been subsisting on tea, onigiri and beans on toast … and ramen. Yes I have the world’s …

Living the Freelance Dream: The ‘I’m on holiday’ edition

Submitted by Lesley on Sunday, 6 September 20093 Comments

Ah the weekend, I was totally blissful until I realised Ceri had an accident when I refused to get up and let her at at six thirty in the morning. Lovely. It’s not really her fault but it’s hardly the best start to my impromptu but much-needed holiday. I’m sure there are worse ways, fortunately I had a parent coming over to help me clean and she’s very good at it. Before you ask, or balk, I was making her dinner. We had chicken escalope, garlic chipped potatoes with chocolate cake for afters and it was nice. Indeed, we were doing mundane stuff like fixing bills and tiding house but it was nice to do normal things for once. Then I made scrummy biscuits, which I’m eating as I blog. Nom!

I parted ways with WoW.com and Massively this week. It wasn’t exactly amicable from my perspective and while I’m not bitter, I am disappointed. But, I’m also relieved. My stress levels have plummeted and I just discovered the latest issues of PCGZine and MMOZine (click to download) are out with my pieces on BlizzCon and World of Warcraft: The Call of the Crusade. Awesome.

While I am on holiday, I’ve got a lot on this week. I’ve got a mobility assessment with Guide Dogs on Wednesday, then the Parental Unit is coming over to join me for a meal and stay over in order to get me to the station super early on Thursday morning.  IBless her.  have to be in Victoria for a super cool and exciting press event by 9:30am that I can’t really talk about but it’s something I’ve very interested in. The event itself isn’t too long and because it’s also in Victoria so I’m going to visit Westminster Cathedral then go to the British Museum. If I have time, I’ll also nip to Piccadilly to the Japan Centre and the Apple Store on Regent Street. Yes, I want to drool at iMacs, specifically the accessibility options.

When I’m not lying in, pitching features for the week after next, I’m going to be playing Aion and WoW. It’s open beta week in Atreia, though that said, the term ‘open’ is a bit of a misnomer. You still need a key. I’ve rolled an Elyos Scout called Eshte on a low population (read: still packed) server with an unpronounceable name. I’ve also rerolled Eshte my Death Knight as the Blood Elf she was meant to be. She’s currently sitting in Ogrimmar until I get a moment to take her into Outland and I’m quite curious to see what it’s like Horde-side.

BTW, if you’ve not gone to see District 9, what are you waiting for? Go go go!

What a shame about wow.com – I guess we won’t hear your dulcet tones on the weekly podcast any more, sparring with Turpster. Good luck with everything else :)

Really sorry to hear that you and wow.com have parted company, it was nice to hear some euro centric info there once in a while.

Hope you are okay for work though?
