Nip/Tuck: Season Five (DVD Review)

Submitted by Lesley on Tuesday, 19 January 2010No Comment

Thanks to a year-long hiatus mid-season, season five of the surgical drama Nip/Tuck has been a while coming. McNamara/Troy has moved to trendy LA but their appointment book is empty and they are unknowns in the plastic surgery and celeb mecca which is Beverly Hills.

Spread over eight discs, this series chronicles Sean and Christian’s most turbulent season as they try to find fame. This goes from celebrity boob jobs to joining the crew and cast of cheesy medical drama Hearts n’ Scalpels. The case of the week format continues along with disturbing subplots such as Colleen the teddy bear fixated agent wanna-be and Eden, the sex-crazed daughter of Julia’s new (female) lover.

But it’s the patients which really made the series worth watching. They literally come in all shapes and sizes which a myriad of odd ailments or ‘flaws’ that need fixing. Finally there are, of course, the surgeons’ own personal lives as Christian battles with breast cancer and Sean finds himself wheelchair bound.

As with previous season boxsets, this one is not exactly extras heavy but then it doesn’t need to be. The twenty two episodes are compelling and rewatchable so that they really don’t need anything else.  That said, there’s a gag reel, featurettes and a selection of deleted scenes which add extra to those pining for more. While not the best series, and almost a reboot given the pair’s migration to LA, Nip/Tuck continues to mix sex with surgery to come out with a brilliant series which manages to keep you hooked right up to the final episode.

Nip/Tuck is available now on DVD priced £49.99.
